She says: Get some wood Putty and form the area that is damaged, then let dry and paint.

He says: cut out the damaged area, go to local store and take the piece for side and design, then replace and paint to match.

As already suggested, you can get that type of base at most lumber supply stores like Lowes and Home Depot.

As for the dog, he/she will probably do it again and again unless that is corrected. I am surprised that is hasn't been suggested to dispose of the dog - not mine I have two.

Does the dog chew on other items in the house other than it's toys? My grandmother had dogs that were left in the house while she went to work and sometimes chewed on everything - separation anxiety I believe they call it now. She stopped them by giving them the old gallon milk jugs to play with. She would just drain most of the milk out them let them have fun. The dogs didn't chew on the house again and she got the milk jugs smashed and ready to be recycled with no effort of hers - except to pick the pieces up of course.

Both of my dogs (who I believe are half goat) are outside but as along as they have a jug to chew on won't chew on their pens, dog houses, food dishes, or sleeping blankets.

This is just a suggestion about your dog, works for us but not a proven fix - may have no effect on your dog. But I hope it does because having to fix things that out "kids" damage gets frustrating.
