Do you get any warning message before it shuts down?

Anyway, even if you don't, it's likely that there's a virus in your computer. I suggest you to back up all your data and format the C: drive of your hard disk and install windows again. You can back up your data on CDs/DVDs or any form of external memory. You can also save all your My Documents and other C drive data on the other drives of your computer. This is the only foolproof way of getting rid of this virus.

It's obvious that your current antivirus isn't working properly. I recommend you to uninstall it and download a new one and scan your disk, but I don't think that will solve your problem completely.

The best option is to back up your data, format the C: drive, and install windows again. Get a new antivirus next time.

C hances are it's a power setting problem, overheating problem, or possibly a video driver problem.

1. Make sure your antivirus is up to date and running
2. Make sure you scan for spyware with spybot s & d
3. Only run your computer on a hard surface with plenty of air circulation.
4. Try the always on settings for power, no hibernation, no sleep mode

ONLY as a LAST RESORT do you want to format & reinstall the OS. That is so much problem especially when it may not be needed. In other words, don't cut off your foot because you have a hangnail.

Good Luck

Get a program like Sandra (free trial link at the bottom) or another diagnostic program and see what temperatures your Microprocessor and other components are running at
Abrupt shut downs are most likely caused by over heated
Make sure all your fans are running and you are not blocking air flow from exiting your CPU
Temperatures over 185* (85* C) cause components to fail and a system restart
The computer restarts to prevent any damage from happening

Sounds like it could be a overheating problem. I would open the case and have a look at the cpu fan and see if it is running. If it is not, then the machine will overheat and the machine will automatically shutdown to prevent damage to sytem components. If the fan is running, then i would check the power supply and see if the fan on on there is running as that be causing it to switch off and then on again.last option to try is to check for viruses.

The "its safe to turn off your monitor" message comes from your monitor and not your computer.

It might be your power saving modes. Check them out. There could be many problems that would cause your PC to just turn off. One of them is your power supply or your heatsink or fan not working properly.

I recently had a similar problem. I tried everything. What I ended up doing was to take off the internal "battery" looks like a watch battery. Take it out for a few minutes. If you do this, you must reset times and dates on your PC.

Power saving modes
------------------------------------
Right click on the desktop

Click on "Screen Saver" tab

Choose "power" and check the settings

Good Luck.

Go with the overheating problem. Check the CPU fan.

It's probably going into hybernation mode to save power. This is beneficial because it saves everything then powers off when idle. If you don't want it to do this try tweaking power settings in control panel.
