I lost my weight. I was 18 in high school had my baby in March and went to the prom in May. In fact, I was smaller than ever but thing you may have to worry about is dark spots and stretch marks. I used mederma for scars, a skin tone cream, skin fiming body wash and skin firming lotion. I did walk around down the street often but I always did.
Ignore that ignorant lady's comment she is probably overweight and unhappy.People who judge others so quickly often have problems of their own.I'm assuming when you say obsessed that you meant concerned and aware... If you don't keep yourself up and looking good you would have even more stupid people speaking their small minds about it
Take care of yourself for yourself and forget others ignorance.

I don't really think that you are being shallow. Self image is an important part of being a good mom. You will teach your child to be confident if you are about yourself. Breastfeeding isn't a good way to lose weight because you are supposed to eat extra calories to make up for what the baby is taking. Now, that having been said, I did lose weight from breastfeeding, but lost more once I stopped, after my son turned one because I could then really cut the calories and not worry about taking away from his caloric intake.
Try not to be obsessed with your weight. You will never be the same as you were before you had a baby. You have a new curvier figure, one more womanly, now. There is nothing wrong with that. Talk to your dr. about what is your own personal weight loss goal. Don't expect to look like a model, just try to look like a happy healthy mommy.

I lost the weight rapidly and gained some muscle tone back too....I actually felt the pulling on my stomach muscles as my daughter fed. There is a sensation of everything internal getting back to normal as you feed and I am certain the weight loss was because she fed so often! As she grew chubby, I grew slimmer - it seemed a fair an considerate gift from nature.
I don't think it is altogether shallow - there is nothing wrong with caring how your body looks at any time in life....becoming a mother is no exception. Whatever happens, I wish you all the pleasure that being a mummy brings (mine is actually 20 now and recently made me a grandma - she lost all the weight too and breast fed).
Namaste,

Well, I breastfed my first daughter until she was 5 months old and I couldn't seem to lose the last 10 lbs of baby weight...but now I'm breastfeeding my 6 month old baby girl and I lost all the pregnancy weight and even more! So it seems like the second time around I'm doing better...and I have heard that breastfeeding is supposed to help you lose weight quicker, plus it's great for your baby too! =)

Breastfeeding has a number of benefits for both mom and baby -- everything from aiding your uterus in shrinking and lessening your risk of breast cancer to giving your baby an incredible immune system boost -- and besides is an amazing experience for both of you.
What you really need to consider post-partum is getting a healthy diet so that you are able to meet the needs of your baby and keep yourself strong. Exercise is an important part of that and can help you get in shape.
I breastfed my son for 14 months and no, I did not loose weight. Actually, I left the hospital just 5 pounds heavier than my pre-pregnancy weight (I gained less than 20 pounds during my pregnancy) and at the end of the first year I was heavier than that. Breastfeeding left me hungry and thirsty -- and although I followed a healthy diet I did put the pounds on.
But you shouldn't let this discourage you from breastfeeding. This is just one period, but a very important one in your child's life...you can concentrate on your figure later. Try to appreciate your body for the amazing job it did growing your baby, bringing it into this world and nourishing it and focus less on the size of it.

I didn't...but then I was constantly hungry and didn't eat right. You do burn a TON more calories when you breastfeed. But you need to eat good, healthy food. I think that more important than burning calories and losing weight is the relationship that you develop with your baby while nursing. I just LOVED sitting still for hours with an excuse to hold and cuddle my babies. It was wonderful! Besides the health benefits to your baby...they are enormous! Breastmilk has antibodies which augment your baby's immune system. While everyone else around might be getting sick, your baby will be much healthier.
Go for walks...you burn as many calories walking a mile as you do running a mile...you just take a little longer getting there. Go walking, eat healthy. You'll find it works.

There are people who take off the pounds automatically, then theres me. I had to work at it with breastfeeding and losing weight. You are supposed to eat more, which I did, but if you eat the wrong things like I did, it gets you nowhere.
But dont let that be your deciding factor! The weight issue is important to ALL women, but the BABY is supposed to be #1. If you eat well and avoid ice cream, then the baby gets whats best for him/her & you will lose wieght to. As well th more active you are while breastfeeding, the easier it is to lose the weight.

I am lucky in as much as the weight falls off in the first few weeks, but I cannot stop eating and I do eventually put some of it back on. If you are really good at controlling your eating you may lose it and keep it off. Although I eat lots of good foods I'm just constantly hungry.

Breast Feeding helps shrink the uterus and helps your body go back to it's pregnancy form. You'll lose a lot of calories breastfeeding, just be sure to eat right because you don't want to hurt your baby by not giving it enough nutrition. Remember you need to eat for two.
