Honestly, did you realize the political make-up of the military? Only 9% of them military identify themselves as liberals. The majority actually identify themselves as conservative. Conservatives are fighting in the military for the freedoms that we all enjoy and they have done so for the past two centuries. It seems, especially since the Korean War, that liberals have no been willing to fight for their rights. Where did liberals go during the draft in Vietnam? Canada, the only people that fought were conservatives who were patriotic. Being a liberal and being a dissenter is patriotic, but being a liberal and a dissenter and refusing to fight for your rights is un-american and I think that is what most modern liberals have become. I hope liberals enjoy abusing the rights that other people have bled for, you people are trash.

I'm in the military. I guess I cannot communicate my tone through words on the internet. It is more of a ironic hypocrisy sort of tone. Not a hateful one.

Um, yes I am moderately annoyed at the people "good weather americans". The people that enjoy all that America has to offer, and abuse all that America has to offer on top of it, but as soon as anything is asked of them, they run to Canada. People that take advantage of everything that the US has to offer, but then refuse to defend the country that has given so much are complete trash. Draft-dodgers should be shot as traitors.

bd b -- korea and vietnam were started by democrats. I would love for you to compare the modern day liberals to the Democrats at the times of ww2 and korea. Vietnam marks the modern day liberal.

Well son, a poll of US armed forces DOES reflect what the military believes, I am not sure if you understand what a poll is. I'm in the military and can also comment on this fact. Polls of servicemen does reflect what they believe, are you retarded?

You are the reason there is hate in this country. Not to mention those stats about liberals and conservatives that serve are totally false. They hold no bearing on how the military believes. By the way let me know sometime when a Republican in the white house actually finishes and wins a war. Hasn't been done since Lincoln, and he really wasn't a republican by todays standards. So why don't you thank those liberals for letting you live in the country you do right now.
Let me also break this down for you...

World Wars...needed to fight to protect the whole world and ourselves from evil.

Korean, Vietnam, Iraq - Conflicts that hold no bearing on our daily lives and never would.

Can you see why the smart people don't find it necessary to fight in these wars?

Maybe you are the stupid one, and right now with your name and rant I believe you are.....have a great lemming day!

I have a friend who is in the military, serving in Iraq right now. I've asked him how he feels about defending those who don't agree with the war in Iraq or who oppose the troops. He says that while he doesn't agree with their point of view (obviously) that he would still die to protect it because that is the beauty of America, freedom. How can you have so much hate towards these people, when someone serving and actually putting his life on the line does not?

Very well said! That ought to sting a bit... Of course they always say that "the truth hurts."
There are a few liberals in the military--sometimes fulfilling a family legacy, but usually because they wanted a guaranteed job and money for college ("What do you mean I have to go fight a war now!? Aww, man!").
I haven't met many libs in the military (usually they are really young and from liberal families, and they typically get out after only 1 tour--something having to do with not liking the requirement for accountability, responsibilty, and self-improvement.)...
But strangely enough, I've met a number of very outspoken liberal military wives... I find that really odd, especially when their husbands support the military and its goals--including the Iraq war. I have heard many of these wives out here (we're a forward-deployed base, so our guys go 6 months out, 6 in) constantly complain about how stupid the deployments are, etc.. One of my former coworkers was even talking of hanging Bush like Saddam. (I considered calling the Secret Service, but I don't feel she's a genuine threat--she's a VERY nasty lady to ANYone she dislikes.) I really don't get it--they love their husbands, but out of ignorance or selfishness actually hurt the troops, and by extension their own spouses, by their words (and presumably) voting positions.
I just don't get it... Of course that's part of the reason I asked a YA question about whether people shared political views with their spouses. I was surprised to learn that several of the responders did not.
Anyway, yes, you're right, mostly libs take advantage of their 1st amendment rights--all too often at the expense of those who've sacrificed for them to have those rights. Sad, really. Especially when they are trying everything imaginable to prevent the conservatives from getting a word in edgewise. Thank heavens for Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingram, Anne Coulter, and others for making the world and airwaves safe for actual democracy! (Oh, and a special thanks for Air America--proof of the lack of interest in the liberal point of view!) LOLOL

Is there a point to this rant? My father, a liberal, fought in Korea and Viet Nam. I am a liberal and a vet, also. My ancestors have fought (and sometimes died) in every war since the King Phillip War.

Don't confuse the neo-socialists calling themselves "liberal" today with the true liberals.

I think that you bring up a good point. The left wants a person to be open mined only if they agree with their point of view. take the ACLU. They pick to defend cases that support the left wing agenda. Conservaties are out there on the fount lines fighting for our rights, but there are some liberals too.
