I am trying to sell my computer online and I have had a few people ask me about the specs or specifications....what is that and where do I find it at? And once I find it how do I know if it is a good "spec" or not?

Hi if you go to my computer right hand click it and select properties. Under the general tap you will see "Computer"
This will tell you the chip that your computer runs Eg for mine it says "AMD 64 3200 2.15 GHZ 960Meg of Ram". This means that at the mo my pc' s CPU is running at 2.15 Ghz CPU speed with 1 Meg of memory (I am using 960 of that right now). For the record that is a "fair" spec.

3 Ghz CPU or even Dual Core are better (Dual Core chips run as if there were 2 CPUs so you could have a 3Ghz and a 3 Ghz making a 6 GIG Dual Core CPU - these work 'separately' and you know what they say to heads are better than one ! ). These days the faster the CPU runs (ie the more Ghz that it has the better so 2 ghz ids better than 1 and 3 is better than 2 and so on) and the higher memory (so 2 GIG is better than 1). The other thing that they will want to know is how much storage space you have on the hard disk. You can get this information by selecting my computer again left hand click and then you will see all your disks or partitions. If you hold the mouse over them then you will find out how much space you have in total and how much space you have left. Hope this helps

Go to http://www.belarc.com

On the main page on the top of the page there is a blue bar and you need to click once on the word "Products".

That will bring down a menu and you need to click on "Belarc Advisor".

On the next page near the top in red you will see "Download Belarc Advisor"; click on it once.

It will ask if you want to Run; Save; or Cancel. Click on RUN.

This will begin the download and it will run the program automatically. It will install a bright yellow icon on your desktop. You can delete the icon from the desktop by right clicking on it and select "delete". This will delete the icon only and not the program/utility. You can uninstall the program in the Add/Remove section of the Control Panel. The path is: Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove

This utility will give you a full report on your computer regarding all the hardware and software that is installed on it. I recommend that you print the report so you don't have to keep running the utility each time you want to reference the information about the PC.

This should give you all the info you want.

For better information than System Information Start, Run, type in DXDIAG and press OK. CPU, memory and windows details are on the first page. Display Tab shows graphics card details. For disk capacity, in My Computer right click on drive and select Properties.

If it is a brand name computer, there is a model number on the computer (usually on the front). Then you can look up the make/model to list specifications (assuming you didnt add/remove hardware, if you did, make a note of what was altered).

Or, if it is a windows (xp) computer. run system information.
START > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information

Right click on My Computer and select Properties and select the General tab will give you the RAM and Processor.

Also you can click on the Hardware tab to get other info.
