I have got as a present a Schefflera: I think it is a Schefflera Arboricola. I have heard that they can be developed as Bonsai. Any comments?

I think there is a bonsai variety of Schefflera.

Schefflera arbicola need partial shade to high interior lighting with a rich well-drained soil mix. In the greenhouse we use a soil mix consisting of 2 parts peat moss to 2 parts loam to 1 part sand or perlite. They do best with regular watering but can withstand periods of drought fairly well. We fertilize them on a monthly basis during the spring and summer months with a balanced fertilizer. During the winter month the plants are grown more to the dry side and are not fertilized. If re potting is needed then it should be done in late winter before new growth starts.

There isn't any way to make a bonsi out of the plant. Keep it in a well lit place and water only once a week and keep it minimal. They do not like "wet feet".
