Here's the facts.
Count Walsegg, in July 1791 commissioned a Requiem from Mozart to honor his wife's (Anna) death. The Count loved music and was a poor composer and in the past had works commissioned in secret by Mozart to pass as his own. (Much to the amusement of his musicians, they knew it was the work of Mozart, but applauded him anyway.)
Count Walsegg was to pass the Requiem as his own.
Mozart was too busy to start working the Requiem just then.
Of course, as time passed Mozart fell ill and truly believed he was writing it for himself.
In the words of his wife Constanze; "Suddenly he vomited, it gushed out of him in an arc, it was brown, and he was dead.

The impression was that it was Salieri. This is nonsense indeed. Salieri, though not enamored with Mozart's personality, had reverence for his music and played viola in the Mozart Orchestra of all the Mozart pieces, from symphonies to concertui at the court of the emperor.
It was actually a messenger from a nobleman from another county, who really wanted The piece to pay tribute to his deceased wife. Musicologists actually have copies of the scores with the nobleman's signature on it it as composer. Of course, IT was really Mozart's Requiem.

Here's about the most complete account anyone might need of the whole issue surrounding the Requiem, as published within the context of 'The Mozart Project':

Hope this helps.

Amadeus is my favorite music and it was Antionio Salieri. Salieri was at the party that Mozart, Mozart's father, and Mozart's wife was at. Salieri had a mask on so they didn't know it was him, but Mozart didn't have one on or he took it off so Salieri knew it was him, it was a mask party. Salieri wanted Mozart dead because he was jealous of him. Mozart's father died and when Salieri heard of it he dressed up in the outfit that his father was wearing at the mask party. Mozart didn't know it was Salieri. Salieri did this so he would work himself to death, it worked.

If you mean the movie, Amadeus, people tend to assume that it is Salieri or otherwise the ghost of his father...

there is no real evidence. it is rumored that the character was hired by his father to help do him in. i also think it was just a coincidence and timing that was all. who knows if it ever really happened anyways.
