The "footprint" of the tank, in my opnion, should be...

20% dry rock where the turtles can sun themselves.

40% water where the turtles can still stand and breathe while submerged.

40% water where they can swim underwater unhindered.

Make sure you have a good sun lamp for them for several hours a day.

Leafy aquatic plants in the water (not too many).

Good luck!

A good tank for a Red-ear Slider will be...

- Big- the bigger the better for many reasons! I would start with 40 gallons.
- Crystal clean, using a big filter
- Warmed to 75-90F in the water, 90F on the basking site
- Use a natural-looking log for a basking site
- Use natural-looking sand or gravel for a substrate, and use a siphon cleaner to vacuum it regularly (changing about 1/4th of the water a week, even with the filter)
- Be well-lit in a way that includes UVB lighting. Good lighting makes a nice tank look much better!
- Decorated with live plants in a way that offers a shady hiding area, yet offers a lot of open space. A couple designs I especially like are heavy planting on the sides, open middle.

Hi Jimmy, the simpler the tank the easier it is to keep tank. Turtles are generally very dirty and keeping the tank without much decoration will make cleaning it much easier.
Supplying one of the floating turtle docks with an overhead uvb/heat lamp combo works great and keeps the tank easy to maintain. Make sure you invest in a good filter. External canisters are the best for keeping the tanks clean. Magnum, Filstar, Fluval are a few good ones. I find the Magnum prime the easiest. If you really want decorations, make them simple and easy to remove to clean.

The turtle will need a basking stone. Even a water turtle will want to dry out and bask under a sun lamp. Just make usre that you can find a rock that is one peice. Kept a yellow belly and a red ear for many years and started out using a pile of large flat rocks for them to climb out of the water onto. Inevitably there was a "rock slide" that could have been dangerous to the turtles. ONE BIG STONE is best.

You should go to a pet store and buy a pretty big tank. Then, you should buy a rock "formation" or waterfall for the turtle to go swimming and drink. Buy some plants, sand, and much more that will make it look like a "turtle beach". Good luck with your turtle!

ok, enable's see! you do not elect any conditioners at in touch on your turtles. in basic terms sparkling water (i exploit known tap water). it would want to be smart to purchase a warmth lamp because a hood covers the completed accurate of the tank, at the same time as a warmth lamp you may want to easily element on the platform and they could get less than it on each occasion they please (: The water is "meant" to be heated, yet I have by no potential heated mine and my turtles are fantastic! Water element is meant to be 2 cases the dimensions of the turtle. i'm assuming you've a fish tank clear out that hooks over the wall of the tank? in my opinion i got here across it more advantageous helpful to have a clear out that you position contained in the tank on the bottom of it. also, the fish clear out gained't fairly suck in each and each of the leftover food and poop which will be left in the back of, so this is more advantageous helpful to purchase some thing somewhat more advantageous useful. And the tank that you've will quickly be a lot too small. each information superhighway web site will allow you to recognize that you elect ten gallons for each inch your turtle is. So once you've 3 little a million-inch turtles, you're meant to have a 30-gallon tank at present. yet once again, I had 2 in a 10 gallon and they were fantastic till they were about 4 inches. Then I gave one away because they could strive against. (Turtles also boost to conform to their surroundings, so in case you save them in a smaller tank, they gained't boost to the completed length of 10-12 inches. (once you've pink Eared Sliders, I propose) desire this allows!
