Awww, don't do that! I would prefer to see you write how you actually talk - there's a lot of Americans on here, but there are so many people representing other places too :) One of the great things about talking to people from other places is their differences.

"I rarely ever hear black people calling themselves this unless their around people of different races or on tv. " I have observed the same thing! "no one refers to white people as European-Americans. " I've started doing that... since I'm labeled African American it only makes sense to me. "Well we're from Africa originally but if we live in American or somewhere else how can we be African?" I understand where you are coming from, but this question often irritates me. Well my people, we darn straight ain't Swedish. I agree with the other answer... thus far this is the best./ most polite/ most accurate thing to say at the moment. I'm going to start labeling myself West African American... make it even more complicated.

No, but I'm from the US and I do find myself wanting to add the letter "U" to some words, like colour and favour. My grandad was from England and I was raised with cockney rhyming slang...I use it whenever I can remember a good one.

I don't think so, I find your terminology to be refreshing. In the south they have some funny ways of saying things but I just roll w/them.

Just be yourself. I actually like it when you guys use your own phrases and words, because I get to learn how you all speak.
