Name the least touristy/attractive/congenial city in the Western word. Let me do it for you - London.
After the great fire of London which destroyed the medieval palaces and churches it has never built anything of lasting beauty.
Today it is a commercial/business centre of largely nondescript functional buildings. It is situated in a depression - the Thames Basin - and there are no scenic hills where tourists can look over the cityscape. It does not even have tall buildings that can be compared to anything you may find in say Bangkok or Singapore (apparently obstructing the view of St Pauls is forbidden).
The streets are clogged with traffic and bus journeys take too long, best to stay underground. Why do tourists pay through the nose to view waxwork models? Because there is little else for them to do.
Come 2012 visitors will discover what a dump London is.

Have you ever been to London? It is a marvellous place and it the MOST touristy place in the world. The amount of tourists coming to London despite the bad interest rates in their favour gives this country millions of pounds that we wouldn't get otherwise through exportation. As for no 'hills' we built the London Eye which is right in the centre of London instead of somewhere like Sacré Coeur in Paris which is quite far away. We can't build tall building because of the clay London is on, it is impossible for the foundations to be set. Is St. Paul's not beautiful, what about Parliament? I am proud of being a Londoner and ashamed that you are British and so ignorant and close minded.

Wait a minute, you're an American? How dare you say these things about a country you have nothing to do with. Of course you're ignorant then.

February 6, 2012 — If she is still on the throne, Elizabeth II will celebrate her Diamond Jubilee. A series of festivities across the United Kingdom and Commonwealth of Nations will likely run throughout the year.

I agree with you that London is a dump. I did not like that place at all.

July 27, 2012 — Opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics begins in London at 7:30 pm

there is a lot more for people to do in London than just as you put it to view over priced waxworks how about the museums they are not over priced they are free then there is the tower of London granted not free but still a big tourist attraction the London eye again not free but again a big tourist attraction that has just named a few why must people always knock London I know it very well indeed and am there very regular so I suggest you have a better look at London yourself I have a feeling you don't know it that well

Nothing of lasting beauty - St Pauls (build because of the great fire)
No scenic hills - Greenwich and Hampstead
Nondescript functional building - 30 St Mary's Axe (The Gerkin) plus plently more being built
No medieval palaces - Hampton Court

Have you ever been to London ? If you have you must have walked around with your eyes shut.

I totally agree with you. I never thought it was a good idea in the first place and whilst everybody else was cheering their heads off, I felt like booing! I wish France had got it as it might have wiped that smug smile of their face!
