The battery in the bike is a GTB9-4. You can't find these anywhere (on Memorial Day weekend especially!) If I have a battery of the same dimensions, same specs (12 volt, 8amp hour, 115 cold cranking amps), can I use this on my bike safely and without messing up any of the electronics?

As long as it fits in the same place, puts out the same volts, and attaches to the same terminals, it should be fine. One of my old bikes had a lawnmower battery in it!

Any motorcycle shop can get one for you.
A Japanese manufacture dealership should have them in stock, as they're a very popular battery in new bikes.
