I just bought a new Dodge Caliber with a factory warranty of 3 years 36,000 miles.

They are trying to get me to get the extended warranty for an additional 3 year bumper to bumper. Which includes a rental if it is being serviced and a $100 deductable (after the factory warranty has expired).

It is $960.00 plus tax. I would rather NOT finance an additional $1000. I am a FOOL for NOT taking it?

Tell me your experiences.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

I 've been in the auto repair business as a Master-certified Tech for about 30 years, and unless something really catistrophic happens, such as an engine or transmission, in my opinion the warranties aren't worth the paper they're printed on.
It seems they ALWAYS sound better than they really are, and unless you ask just the right questions, you only get the marketing "blurb" the salesman are taught to "parrot"
Beware-the right questions usually get answers like'I'm pretty sure its covered' or'probably"
If you really want to keep from throwing away money, HAVE ANY QUESTIONS YOU ASK IN WRITING AND GET THE ANSWERS IN WRITING< PREFERABLY SIGNED BY A MANGER WITH TENURE IN THE BUSINESS.
If the manger's answers are 'way off from the salesman's, that's a red flag

Since you bought a Dodge I would jump on an extended warranty. I had a 2001 Chevy Blazer that had over $6000 in repairs all covered by the extended warranty that I paid $1000 for, worth it yes. There are warranties out there that if you do not use during the terms you can get your money back.

Don't waste your time or money. Not only would you have an additional $1000 on your loan, but you would end up paying twice for it in interest.
For an extended warranty policy, you MUST follow the book to the tee!
Have your car serviced (by the dealer) on time every time or you will lose your warranty. This can get rather costly as an oil change at a dealership is 3 times what you would pay to do it on your own driveway. There are too many other things to list here as well.

You should try to negotiate a better price. Even if you can't try to get them to wave the $100 deductable. If you finance the additional money on a 5 year loan it would only be about $20 a month. With just one major repair it would easily pay for itself. Hope my advise helps

i wouldnt get an extended warranty because no matter what your car will have problems...every one has car problems with or without warranty....i have a limited warranty on a 2000 dodge dakota i just got and it's sitting at the dealer's because the steering rack (which IS on the warranty) is f-d up, and they're saying its not........which it is because my boyfriend is a mechanic and he even asked his job and other people and they all say it is.......so im waiting til TUESDAY for them to look at it and its down at the place.....its a pain in the *** they really dont want to fix things for free...they lie.

as long as the warranty offered is underwritten by chrysler, meaning you can go to any chrysler store - absolutely. now bear in mind that you have room to negotiate on the warranty just as you can with your car. use it in your favor before you sign on the dotted line - the warranty is worth $500, whatever you pay above that makes the dealer happy, not you.
be a negotiator - i hope this helps you

Mr.t is a idiot.

Yes your extended warantee is a good idea, when is the last time you heard a mechanic say - no charge-???

Most cars come with a 3 year 36K warantee for a reason - they are built by mexicans at a slave wae, and they are not worth 1/2 the money you just shelled out for it.

At 39,000 miles when you hear the bottom of the engine start knocking you'll be glad you got that extra coverage.

I have not had much experiance with these after market warrenties....the one time I did have to deal with them it was an all day 3 way phone tag between the customer, the shop, and the insurance company. The warrenty did not cover any "wearing" parts, meaning anything that wears is not covered.........I was shocked $1500 well spent? I think not

Extended warranties are a waste of money.
