I have had trouble taking every kind of birth control pill I've tried. Ortho Tri-Cyclin and Ortho Lo both made me sooo sick. Yasmin made me retain water and swell. I was on another kind, can't remember the name, but it made me sick. Now I'm taking Alesse and I'm so emotional and crazy, wake up sick, and bleed all the time. Any suggestions of any type you have tried and liked? I have to take it for very painful periods and ovarian cysts.

I am having NO issues with Kariva (pill).

On another form of birth control (depo) I had serious weight gain, mood swings, loss of libido, spotting at odd times, lots of negative side affects. (I'm surprised that they still administer this with all the complaints I've seen).

On Kariva, I've had no weight gain, no mood swings, libido is back, spotting only during the fourth week (FYI, my fourth week pills DO have hormones and are NOT a placebo week except for TWO pills) with the exception of the first month or two while the pills and my cycle were not on the same track.

Are you sure you have to take it? I know you get painful periods and have the cysts, but if you are getting such a strong reaction to these pills, maybe you should avoid taking them.

I have never been able to take the pill, for exactly the reasons you detail. I used to get the most painful periods ever when I was a teen - so bad I had to go home, and would be sweating, shaking, and pale. They did eventually settle down by my twenties, and having children stopped the pain completely (not suggesting you do that, by the way!!).

I don't know, I just hate messing with my body like that. I have just relied on pain relief, baths, exercise (very good), etc. I don't know about the cysts, though. I never had those (to my knowledge, anyway). I would just listen to your body. If it doesn't like the hormones, perhaps there is a reason. Perhaps the docs can suggest other remedies for the problems you have other than messing with your body.

Some of the pills that have higher estrogen amount are: Femcon Fe, Ovral and Ortho-Cept just to name a few. It definitely sounds like the amount of estrogen in the Loestrin 24Fe is too high. There is one that is lower called Alesse, and there is another called Mircette.
