I have it turned and vice grips on it but I can't pull it out, if I had drilled a hole in it that would have just pushed it up further. Need advice.

If you can get to it, screw a big screw into it and pry it out with a hammer. That only works if the engine is out of the car.

The material of the freeze plug is softer by design than the engine block. Just pry until it comes out. If you can get a second pair of pliers on it and squeeze it a bit to reduce the diameter, that helps. But if you have room enough, just get the pry bar behind it and apply moderate pressure while pulling the vice grips.

Place an iron on a low setting on the metal around it.

Keep ice in direct contact with the freeze plug itself.

Do this for about five or ten minutes and then move the ice and keep tapping the freeze plug gently with a hammer and then trying to loosen it with the vice grips.

Keep trying!

Put something between the vice grips and the block and lever, not pull it out.

What I do is punch a hole in it and work it out like that, it'll take a bit of prying but once it starts to move it'll come out, the fun is putting in the new one if your motor is still in the car and if your motor is out then its a ''piece of cake'' to install a new one.

Sharpen a punch or screw driver. Drive it through the frost plug & pry it out.
