Yes, there are adaptive technologies that make using a computer, writing and reading much easier.
Check out this page http://ssd.binghamton.edu/adaptive.htm.

It's one I created when I was the Learning Disabilities Specialist at Binghamton University. Kurzweil is a screen reading system that not only reads text but allows you to scan a book, make it into an MP3 and burn it onto a CD to play in a regular CD player. We did that for students' textbooks regularly.

Dragon Naturally Speaking is a program that lets you speak into a microphone and have your words automatically typed onto the screen. It also allows some computer navigation by voice control.

And there are other adaptive type software that can be very helpful. Good luck.

I find it helps to put a transparent color filter over my computer screen, or over the pages on a book.

Green helps me the best for some reason. You can find them at an office supply store such as staples or office plus.

I find this to be a much more feasible and less cumbersome approach than a text to voice converter which only condones laziness instead of trying to help yourself.

If this method works for you, you will notice your dyslexic symptoms to lessen slightly, facilitating reading without a filter when absolutely necessary.

I agree with Damon...using the techie helps will not hep you grow and learn to control your dyslexia. I am mildly dyslexic and have learned to use blocking systems like color. If you need these items because you must be productive immediatly....use them. But while using the computer on your own time practice practice practice.....it will help you improve.

There is software called Read and Write Gold. It is text to speech and can read print for you as you type (with word prediction) or that you have scanned in or even from the internet. It also has a speech to text feature.
