Matt: that's not true, the FISA court granted warrant requests. The difference was court review as a check on police excess.

Brian - you don't think the govt would have told us that the Patriot Act allowed them to get the guy? maybe it's time for public, instead of secret military trials...

Fort Dix is not an example of the Patriot Act in action. A vigilant store clerk turned them in and it took over a year for the FBI to take action. If the Patriot Act was used, the Fort Dix perpetrators would have been detained for questioning immediately.
The is no evidence to support that the Patriot Act is protecting us. It is actually to protect government administration members from being charged with civil rights violations.

I do not think that there is any evidence of this. There needs to be an enquiry by say the General Accounting Office. It may well be working but it is unclear.

The trouble though is that if it is like Waxman's biased assessment of abstinence education, it will not be worth the paper it is written on.

just a month or so ago there were several muslims arrested for planning to attack ft. dix in NJ and several other places. they were tipped off by another muslim. now, previously the FBI would have needed a lot more info to get a warrant and arrest these guys than just some dude saying they were up to no good. the patriot act allows the FBI to tap phones and get search warrants with less evidence than in the past and it seems to be working. remember, the FBI used the RICO act in the 60s to practically destroy the mafi. the patriotic act isn't much different than that and nobody complained then

What evidence is there that it is being used to spy on american citizens and take away their freedom? I don't know how successful it's been because I expect that kind of info is classified. I know the government is not bothering me with it and if you aren't a terrorist I don't see why you would have a problem with this because you should have nothing to hide. You should change to your pic of the white wolf to a white weasel it would fit you better.

The Patriot Act was not put into place to protect us. It was enacted to invade our personal rights and the excuse to enact it was our "protection". THIS GOVERNMENT MUST CHANGE. Another fact to consider: The FDA (Food and Drug Administration), which most people think is here to protect us, is NOT, I repeat NOT here to protect us. It is FUNDED by the Pharmaceutical companies, and it is bought off to approve whatever drug will make the Pharmaceutical companies rich.
RIGHT NOW, THERE IS LEGISLATION IN THE GOVERNMENT TO MAKE IT ILLEGAL TO BUY VITAMINS UNLESS IT IS FROM A PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY.
PLEASE DO US ALL A FAVOR AND MAKE YOUR VOICE OF PROTEST AGAINST THIS HEARD NOW!!!!!!!!!

How could one prove that? Those that have been caught have been caught, we don't know if they would have been caught otherwise.
