It would be pointless and the oil companies would laugh at us. The only way to change things is to get the government to threaten to tax the h-e-l-l out of them unless they lower prices or if they take over setting the prices. Neither of these things will happen because the politicians wouldn't get their cut of the profits if they actually do anything for us so bend over and take it like the rest of us.

Everyone coming together and not driving for 3-4 days would never happen. A more practical solution is for everyone to come together and buy NO gas from the biggest oil companies which are Exxon/Mobil. If they are selling no gas they will have to drop their prices and the other companies will follow. I say buy no gas from Exxon/Mobil for the rest of 2007. The big oil companies must learn that the consumer controls the marketplace, not the seller. And the answer to your last question is yes, I am seriously affected by gas prices.

I agree that this tactic would send a signal to "big oil" but in the long run if feel that they might raise prices to offset the 3 or 4 days. I don't see all of America doing this however because we still need to work, and trucking companies still need to make deliveries, and the planes will continue to fly. I feel that it would make a difference in the short term but not over the "long haul".
i do not agree with Dialm4speeds suggestion regarding "tax the Hell out of big oil. All that would do is drive UP the price. Big Oil would just pass those taxes on the us, the consumer.

That is a good idea, but would not work. Too many people need their vehicles for work, and, too many people will not sacrifice their pleasure to do this. But, here is what can help! If everyone would agree to boycott the two largest oil companies, Exxon and Mobil for the rest of this year, watch them drop their prices. Then, the other oil companies will drop their prices to compete!

Ive heard this same thing over and over...one thing you have to understand is all would not stop driving and oil companies would just raise prices on those few to make up the diffrence(like the tobacco companys raise prices because fewer people are useing thier product)....only thing that will help is for our goverment to stop accepting money from the lobbyiest and regulate the oil giants.do you know everything over 69 to 89 cents a gallon is a profit for them?did you know so far this year they have made over 7 billion in profits compared to last year?supply and demand they say(only a idiot would belive that).until we flood our govermet officials with calls and threaten them with our votes nothing will be done.get ready to see 5 a gallon this year

No. 3 or 4 days will not effect the big oil, because eventually, we must get to someplace.
Back in the 70's the trucking industry banded together and made a huge impact on the oil industry. We need the truckers to come to our rescue again, If they stop running, the country will shut down and only THEN will the rest of the country band together and big oil will be forced to change their ways.
The problem is, no one wants to band together anymore. Today's world is every man for himself and to hell with your neighbor. Our society is too self centered.

If you could find a way to apply the lessons from not driving for 3-4 days year-round and find good ways to get by without driving, probably. Learning ways to permanently reduce gas consumption is going to be a lot more important than some of the symbolic boycott ideas that don't actually change gas consumption. Anybody who's trying to say "We are tired of this!" without making real changes to their gas consumption is not really saying they're tired enough of things.

If we went on strike for a few days, the oil companies know that it's only a matter of time before we have to get gas again.and I'm not much on politics but until something is done at the white house,we are stuck,I'm sure there's more supply than they say there is.

unfortunately, I think this is an exercise in futility, for several reasons. Americans are too "hooked" on their SUV's and such, and I have spoken with many people who feel that as long as they are paying for the gas, they have the right to have whatever vehicle they want (this was a guy in a HUMMER at the gas station last week.)
Personally, I bought a hybrid (Toyota Prius) and went from gassing up twice a week to gassing up twice a MONTH (and my driving is unchanged). In the beginning, I got a lot of jokes about my little car - but now the joke is on those in line at the gas station when I DRIVE BY. ;)

Businesses would have to shut down for those few days because nobody would be able to get to work, and the customers would have to stay home or go somewhere within walking distance. Besides, you saw how well the May 15th gas boycott went. Prices went up several cents per gallon.
