When my son was young I used to look on in horror while he enjoyed peanut butter and jam sandwiches - this was before we discovered the Americans' love of peanut butter and jelly.

I've just bought some peanut butter, for the first time since my children left home. Feeling a bit peckish I cut a slice of bread, spread it with peanut butter and felt it needed something else. Looked for some jam but couldn't find any (or maybe forgot where I keep it!), spied some grapes, cut them in half, put them on the peanut butter and it was delicious. Now I feel as if I've just entered my second childhood, instead of the GOW I seem to have become recently.

Marmalade on my bacon butties, the orange chunky kind; and the bacon fried soft and yummy - not crisp! Salty with sweet again. Makes breakfast quicker anyway.

Try frying bacon until it's crisp, then laying it on toasted bread with Strawberry jam. Fold into a sandwich and enjoy. It is really, really good!

(I can't bring myself to eat peanut butter since I found a mouse molar in a jar of it almost twenty years ago.)

Added...sorry Florence, but it was almost 20 years ago, AND I betcha in a different country...I live in Canada.

Chocolate... When I was young and could eat it I couldn't stand it. Now I find I like it but since I'm diabetic I can't have much of it...
But I do cheat occasionally.

Sylvia d I'm just guessing here but I think she might be claiming to be a Grumpy Old Woman... Which can not be if she likes PB&grape sandwiches.

I come to Yahoo answers to learn and I did. I learned about marmite and can hardly wiit to try some. I may even try to make my own as I already have and like brewers yeast. Although the yeast I like comes from Bosnia (I found out when it wasn't available for a while and it may not actually be brewers yeast.

Something I learned about as an adult that I am very sure I would have avoided as a child is dill pickles and penut butter.

This one's along the lines of Iritadragon's reply (salty with sweet), but you can't beat a Marmite and strawberry jam sandwich.

It must be made with toasted white sliced bread though - any other kind just doesn't work somehow.

There was no peanut butter, either...
