My band played its first gig last night, and before the show, I spoke briefly with the guitarist of one of the other bands. He seemed like a pretty cool guy, but when I asked him what his inspiration was, he said: “The *****. That’s all that matters.” I had to bite my tongue so as not to tell him that that was the lamest response ever. The sad part was, this wasn’t some high schooler playing in a band in hopes of earning a few cool points; this was an established guitar player who has been playing these kind of shows for years.

Whatever happened to playing for the love of music? If the girls come, great -- but that shouldn’t be any serious musician’s primary objective. Luckily, everyone in my band is squared-away and focused on making good, innovative music. What are your thoughts on this?

You raise a valid point, but I would wager to say that a handful of some well known guitarists might say the same thing.

Well, a lot of rockers got into bands just for that reason. Something about a guy playing a guitar has an effect on girls/women.

hey i respect that if you playing music for the love of music and innovating new music (i'm this kinda person as well).

but one day i came to realized that those who are truly talented always deliver bombass music even if their reason is just for the b*itches. so i mean rather the b*tches come or not, their music are always so f*cken dope.

if they naturally good, they're good, doesn't matter what the reason is. and i've met alot of those people before.

Alot of rock songs talk about women. Playing guitar does attract women. A Peacock has colorful feathers to display to women. It's not his only motivation but it's a motivation.

Anyone who feels that they should do anything JUST to impress another person is pathetic in my opinion. You should play a musical instrument because you love to.
You can only play a musical instrument if you truly enjoy it.
From my experience with music, I learnt that you play a musical instrument not with your body, but your soul.

Doing anything specifically to attract the opposite sex is pathetic.

It's shallow and at some point will be discovered....then what?

You are right, he is wrong.
