This depends upon what the original agreement was when you initiated the hosting.
If you agreed to host for x months at a specified rate per month and you want to exit before the x months have been paid for you will likely have to pay an early exit penalty. Sometimes the penalty is full payment for the duration.
You have a contract with the host company that you entered. It is legally binding. You apparently wish to alter the agreement which constitutes a one sided alteration of the agreement. Basically this is breech of contract.
While you may not like it, you are in breech. See if you can negotiate a sweeter early exit penalty but they are not obligated to do so.
Next time be more careful with any contract you make with any party on any matter.

Probably, you mean that the demand is being made through e-mail. If so, this is just a spam. That means - it is a hoax which may even come to you repeatedly. never make any reply because then the sender would get your address, and would nag you more. That you are getting the spam does'nt mean that they know your address which they can send systematically through some software to thousands of people like you even without actually knowing them for sure. Just delete them and then delete them from trash. It is just a botheration. Keep in mind that if you have to be made responsible, then they have to go to court where they fail because you are not at fault.
