whats there to welcome, a alleged sighting that could be any boby, if people seen anything, they would have surely contacted the police, by now, the police were forced into realeasing the stament, by pressure from the parents, not because the police tought the alleged sighting was a valid one.the only thing the alleged sighting has accomplished by being released is that it has sent focus in another direction, who would want to send this investagation, in the wrong direction.

I think the police have done everything they can considering how the McCann's lied about so many things during the first day or so, the timing of the 'checks' on the children, the alleged tampering with the shutters, allowing the apartment to be cleaned the following morning thereby making sure vital forensic evidence was destroyed.
What more can the police be doing? While they search for this one child, lost due to her own parents stupidity, other children from less fortunate backgrounds have also gone missing.
I doubt this latest sighting is anything more than a distraction. It's a holiday complex, it was still relatively early, I presume not all parents staying there dumped their children to go and stuff their faces so possibly if a man was seen carrying what appeared to be a child, we can assume it may well have been a man carrying a child, maybe this man didn't believe it was proper to leave his child alone to go and eat, maybe he was taking his child to a restaurant or a relative or any amount of places. Or do the McCann's now think the only children in the Algarve are theirs?

sunpyre your an idiot the police cant just shut the borders they can put out a borders alert but cant 'CLOSE' them and if you knew anything you'd know that most european borders are now un-manned also to begin with she was a missing person before it was decided that it was an abduction the police have only limited powers so get your facts straight before you speak otherwise you just look stupid

secondly the alledged sighting was'nt made to the police straight away but 24hrs after the incident or do you think the police should have turned back time and then dealt with it you seem to think they should have done everything else

I read an article that said her parents think she is safe. Too bad they weren't that clairvoyant when they were eating dinner and she was left alone for 30 minutes at a time with the window left open in her room. The parents did everything but put a sign on the door that said, "Steal our daughter".

this whole investigation is a complete mess. I mean what crime scene is never secured, the borders were left open. The parents have stated how guilty they feel about not being there for the child but the police should also be feeling guilty. The police have basically assisted in the abduction
