Cognitive behavior therapy is deterministic in that it believes that thoughts cause behavior and if you change someone's behavior or thought you will change the way we think.
It is reductionistic in that it believes that global behavior can be broken down into smaller steps and we can make small changes that ultimately lead to bigger changes - combine effects of smaller steps.
