Some lighters have a lifetime guarantee to which the manufacturers adhere. Some pens have manufacturers who don't. What's the legal position? (UK)

In the case of an item with consumable parts (eg. gas, ink) it's until the consumable runs out...

In UK Products have to be 'fit for purpose' - so (for example) a disposable lighter intended to be used as part of an Emergency Survival Kit would need to have a 'shelf life' in the decades, one that was intended for daily use might only be expected to be 'leak proof' for a few months.

Lifetime in the construction industry is 100 years
In normal life it is 10 years
