Windows Vista is a graphical operating system used on personal computers, including home and business desktops, notebook computers, Tablet PCs, and media centers. Prior to its announcement on July 22, 2005, Windows Vista was known by its codename "Longhorn".[1] Development was completed on November 8, 2006; over the following three months it was released in stages to computer hardware and software manufacturers, business customers, and retail channels. On January 30, 2007, it was released worldwide to the general public,[2] and was made available for purchase and downloading from Microsoft's web site.[3] The release of Windows Vista comes more than five years after the introduction of its predecessor, Windows XP, making it the longest time span between two releases of Microsoft Windows.
Windows Vista contains many new features. The most noticeable change, is the inclusion of a new graphical user interface that takes advantage of the increased power of modern computers. For developers, Vista includes version 3.0 of the .NET Framework, which aims to make it easier and faster for developers to write Windows applications than with the traditional Windows API. Microsoft's primary stated objective, however, has been to improve the state of security in the Windows operating system.

It depends on the game. Some games and programs work fine with Vista, some don't. Nothing bad should happen by trying the games, so I would do it. Otherwise, you could either install Windows XP (You can have both Vista and XP on the same computer) or find a way to emulate the games. I run Windows XP myself, so I'm not sure, but maybe there even is a built-in feature in Vista to run games as in Windows XP.

Well, Win XP and Vista for me are all the same think.
Both have problems, pros and cons...
Keep in mind that both have to deal with viruses, spyware, HDD fragmentation, running a lot of unnecessary programs without even asking for your permission, unrequested updates that make some other programs freeze to death...
Oh, M$ declared a war to the Blue Screen of Death and spent a LOT of time and money in order to avoid this on Vista.
Switch to Linux, bother!
Start reading about slackware and Ubuntu and go for it.
Its free!

Window XP is relatively efficient and STABLE (not many bugs left).
Vista is young, full of bugs, and not even guaranteed by MS.
As usual, wait five more years, then move to Vista.
There are no difference as such. A new name for something similar, another reason for you to spend more dosh into Bill's pocket.
