mmm not really, being pessimistic is irrationally being negative, and being optimistic is being irrationally positive ... being realistic is knowing when to be positive and when to be negative.
generally speaking, i'm a realist ... and i think i prefer dating either optimists or realists .... certain pessimists i know just ruin my day!

I'm pessimistic but I think optimism is actually more realistic. I'm wrong at least 100 times a day when I think that I'm getting sick or someone's brakes will fail or that the rain will last all day. I have never dated anyone as pessimistic as myself. I think most people like me are cowering in the closet.

No.
Raised pessimistic, learned optimistic.
Life is what you make of it. The energy you give out is what you will get back from the world.
Pessimistic people are downers to hang with, everything sucks. Optimistic people are inspirational and can have you believing anything can happen, you can do anything - cuz you can if you want.

mmm.. i've met people who are so pessimistic it's beyond (beneath?) realistic expectations... they always percieve their situations in a negative way that is completely improbable. so i don't think i'd agree. however i'm optimistic about major things in life & a real dreamer (rather than a do-er) so maybe it holds true.
i'd say i'm attracted to upbeat, realistic people. maybe just because someone has to ground the dreamer in me.

To your original question... Definitely...I am married happily to an optimist who is too logical to be a dreamer..I live in the now..Reality is heartless and unlikely to change..only you can do that..it's all swings and merry-go-rounds..is the light at the end of the tunnel a train or a blessing?

Only pessimists link them. I am an optimist. Optimism is not dreaming, it is having confidence in yourself and your environment that good things will happen.
Pessimists often look for the moon to drop on their head, and often worry about things that may never happen to them. That is a good recipe for ulcers, stress, and sleepless nights.

Im always positive, even when I have doubts,if you think only negative things then only negative things will happen,my other half has said he is to old to take driving lessons, plus every time he took them in the past something went wrong,1st time he broke his ankle,2nd he was in hospital for 3 months due to food poisining, cant quite remember what happened 3rd time.....Ive told him that these things had nothing to do with taking lessons they just happened, but he has it in his head if he tries again something bad will happen,so this negative thinking is stopping him........
I always stay focused and positive and usually things go well the pessimist, opptomist is nothing to do with reality or being realistic, this is reality where we are now what we do everyday is reality, dreamming is when you escape in your mind to far off places that you know you probably will never get to .................Therefore in reality you know they are dreams

Yeah, I guess you can equate those words to each other, although I like to think there is reason for optimism in reality!
I am definitely an optimist. I try to think the best in every situation.

i used to be optimistic and the happy-go-lucky type but my life experiences made me more pessimistic.i don't think that it has to have a negative connotation.being pessimistic to me, means that i'm more aware of my surroundings and have become more wiser with my choices because i learned not to be so gullible and trusting.i'm no longer naive as i used to be.i usually date like-minded people because i find it comforting that we have mutual understanding.
