The "middle of the night" is when the demons of doubt arrive.
"Am I good enough for her?"
"Does she love me?"
It is in the light of dawn that the answers arrive or, if not, at least the demons retreat for a while.

Let's classify all times of day, find night and cut that in half. The easiest being Afternoon. This is 12 - 5 PM. Evening is 5 - 8 PM. Night becomes harder because of it's blending and the cross over into morning, here let's say morning is 6 AM - noon.
Leaving 8 pm - 6 AM the next morning as night.
The middle would be 1 AM.
Another theory would be day & night. Day 6 AM - 9 PM, night 9 PM - 6 AM. Middle is Midnight.
So after all that the answer is Midnight to 1 AM.
I still say 3 AM but what do I know?

It's between the time I get to bed, and the time I have to get up to go to the bathroom, or the other way around, although I'm not quite sure about that. I think it might be difficult to know when the middle is, or ever where, but I do know that you CAN get there from here. It's knowing when (or where) you are when you do get there, and what (or who) you should be doing at the time, or something.

It depends. I work second shift, so the middle of the night is about two in the morning to me.
