I think parents should do it. The teacher has so many in a class that its impossible to concentrate on each child and see if it had taken it all. I think only parents could do it. I also think the children absorb the parents more than anything else. They said "Charity begins at home" for nothing. If we look at ourselves, we would have in us, mostly from our families(where we were born) we would have brought with us the customs, the food , the mentality the personality ...... so i think the parents should do it. The teachers could only impart knowledge not ethics and moral values.

When was it stopped?
We learn so many things consciously but the best learning is acquired thru' absorbing from our environment unconsciously
Schools always had a focus on moral education but does the home and community environment allows the child to see it being put in practice.
What we require are adult role models for a child to emulate -at homes , at schools, in neighbourhood, in politics, in movies, even in news that the child is exosed to thru' media -whether print or audio-visual.
Let the media sing paens of good deeds rather than of deviant or antisocial behaviour!!!!
and by the way, well said,Mike....

If you mean general moral values...don't beat up the kid who sits next to you or bring your gun to school...sociology might get into some of it. Cultural norms etc.
However, ethics and moral education belong to parents as they took that responsibility. The schools have a hard time now getting parents to agree on sex ed in schools let alone ethics and morals.

Ethics and morality are a highly personal and subjective thing.
Who's version of ethics and morality do they teach? Do you want your kids to be taught MY version of what's right and wrong?
Teaching kids ethics and morality is (and should be) the sole responsibility of the parent. Schools are there to teach kids facts and skills, reading, writing, arithmatic, history, stuff like that.
It's not their responsibility to raise YOUR kids. If you want your kids to learn to be respectful to others then it's up to YOU to teach them that.
Too many parents want to abdicate their responsibilities to "the school system" that way they have someone to point at and blame when their kid turns out to be an ***.
Take some responsibility, you had the kid it's yours. YOU teach it to be a good person, nobody else will.
Note-- The above is meant as a general statement. I don't know if the person who posted this question has kids or not.

you are extremely right it is surely high time to include ethical & moral values in the education. todays generation may boast of achieving laurels in various fields but they have failed completely taking into account their values. the base truly needs to be strong to build a healthy and prosperous nation. we are the ones who need to secure our future. this is possible by tapping the potential of children at school level and by working on theall round development of children helping them to build a dynamic personality.

I agree with the last answer you got. it is responsability f the parent to teach their children ethic and moral. anyway, the time is goind to come when you , despite the education you've got in school or from your parents, will be able to decide for yourself what is right and what it;s wrong. based in your common sense, your own point of view and your own experience

no. it should be up to the parents to involve and teach their students moral values. all families have different morals. due to personal views, culturally, religion, and geographic location.
parents are leaving it up to teachers/schools to teach their children everything.. when are parents held accountable for these things?
