That's true, I never saw an alcoholic with a hangover.

No.

BUT there is an element of getting into a cycle, drinking to get drunk and wanting it to last and last until it becomes a way of life, because that far into the addiction the drunk way of life becomes what the drinker sees as their perception of normality. There are psychological issues going on : It's not as simple as just being scared of a hangover, it is more like being scared of coming back to the real world when you've found another reality that feels safer. I was a drunk for seven years and the thought of never being drunk again frightened me because I was afraid of real life and the sharpness of feeling real feelings. When I did stop drinking and joined the real world again I actually found it was a better place to be. It's tougher and sharper but it's all real and I couldn't be without that now, I prefer clarity.

I suppose this may be the case in the advanced stages of alcoholism when the withdrawl symptoms become intolerable. There could also be psychological problems, chemical imballance, ect. Alcohol is a drug and is addictive.

An alcoholic has a psychological and phsiological dependence on alcohol. It is an illness that has killed many sufferers and harmed countless families.
The only 'cure' is complete abstinence and that has beggar-all to do with hangovers.
