VVS.Lakshman is definitely one of the great batsmen of the Indian cricket. But time and again he is ignored and humiliated. Does he need a god father or what? He proved his class in several matches. For instance, he scored a double century against Australia in a very crucial moment and won the test match for India. He should have been picked up in the playing 11 aganist Bangladesh in place of either Jaffer or Karthik.

The inner walls in the team do not allow others to get entry.

V.V.S. Lakshmanan is no doubt a class batsman and deserved a chance in the playing 11. However, the question before the team management was whom to be dropped. It was not possible to accommodate Laxman in the place of Wasim Jaffewr or Dinesh Karthik as both of them were the openers and Laxman cannot be given the task of opening the innings. Under the circumstances the only option left out for the team management was either to play only 4 bowlers or drop either Sachin or Ganguly. Considering the humidity, it was not a wise move to play only 4 bowlers. Dropping Sachin or Ganguly was also not a wise move as both of them can be used as part time bowlers.

I am a big fan of VVS Laxman. When ever he is put in the side he performs. He is taken to the test team always when India plays Aussies or Safs or against good teams in their countries.
When playing Benglais it is so sick that a favoured few are given the chance to score 100's against them. And this few are the worst culprits behind the world cup flop show in 2007.
Laxman is a master whose elegance with a bat in hand never ceases to entertain even the dullest of minds watching cricket.
Had VVS laxman and Mohammed Kaif been in the team in the World cup 2007 we would have reached the semi final stage. This is ofcourse provided they are given confidence that they are part of the team and will not be chucked out if they make errors.
Laxman and Kaif now are in the same boat.
Atleast we the fans will not be fooled like before.

There are times that he has been exceptionally good like his 281 against Australians. But Laxman, if you carefully look into his performances recently, has been pedestrian. He occasionally performs here and there. That's all. Nothing big to be called a 'class' player now. He is fading away like any other aging player.

Jaffer is a good opener in spite of his king pair.

Dropping Karthik would set a bad example because he has been performing many rescue acts for India in both forms of the game.

Watch out for Karthik - he's the kind of player that India needs now - someone with strong mental strength and ability to adapt to any situation like Dravid. Players like him are rare.

This is a good question. I am too surprised that you pick up a player especially for the tests and not make him a member of the playing eleven. But yr observation that he should have played instead of Kaarthik is not correct because Kaarthik ultimately proved his worth in both tests. Yes VVS could have played at the expense of MS Dhoni who was not a great success with the bat and Kaarthik would have kept wickets better in the longer version of the game.

There is no doubt that he is a class player.

Unfortunately the world trend in sports, not just in cricket, is to go for the youth and build the team up over time. When you reach your 30's, people and even selectors start considering you as too old.

This is unfortunate since experience counts for a LOT in cricket.

The recent UEFA soccer cup between AC Milan and Liverpool is a prime example of how experience can beat youth even in fast, energy draining sports.

In cricket, experience has no substitute.

Causes:
| Yah he's great but is not great enough to impress the selectors.
| Indians need youngsters and in the team there's no place for guys like VVS
| Good question, don't forget about Suresh Raina, Md Kaif, I Pathan, A Agarkar, A Nehra

the answer is there in the ques itself..... he has been sucessful in his career as a middle order batsmen... i thinks there s no point in replacing a opener with a middle order batsmen......

and then in middle order, who can he replace? u cant expect him to replace sachin or saurav bcoz they would be surely preferred bcoz of their performances in the 1st test..
