how can she just buy the house and live there, when she is an american citizen? doesn't she need a permit to buy a house abroad and live in that country? or a visa?

Yeah, I kinda wondered about that too (especially because I have been working on the whole visa b*llsh*t and it is COMPLICATED!)

Anyway, the thing is, like someone else said, they don't have time to put all the details into a movie like that. One thing I can tell you though, is that everything is WAY easier when you have money. You can get a visa pretty easily if you can prove that you have enough money to support yourself while you are there.

Also, as another poster mentioned, there is a book by the same name. The story is somewhat different, but overall the same. It is actually a true story, although in reality, the movie does not follow the book very closely (for example, in real life she is already married and her and her husband buy the house and have it remodelled, etc.)

I do highly recommend the book though, because she really is quite a good writer and she describes things really wonderfully. I can picture everything she speaks of in the book. Of course, there is also way more detail in the book. I also have her next book after that called "Bella Tuscany". It seems to be very similarly written, but I haven't gotten very far in it because I have been very busy since the time when I read the first one. I look forward to it though, cuz even if it is half as good as the first one, it will be awesome!

Funny enough, although they are really loosely related, I really love the movie AND the book. I love the book for the descriptions and I love the movie for the visuals.

What can I say? I love Tuscany! (By the way, the movie was actually shot in Tuscany, so it is pretty accurate as to how it looks there!)

l asked the same question to my husband after watching that movie. He said that it's one of the privileges of being an American. Really?
They might have shortened the long process of it since it's not that important.

The movie is based on the book which is a true story -- check it out, maybe it goes into detail there.

She probly had one, but just imagine if they had to put all that detail in the movie, she waiting in the pasport line etc etc...
