I haven't had sex but I'm getting ready to. I'm in my mid-20's and just a little concerned about what to expect and if I could have already broken my hymen.

Okay i'm almost positive that you don't want to spread into a mirror and you won't see it anyway lol. At your age and if you masturbated or what not your hymen should be pretty stretched. It won't be broken though. What you can expect is a very quick pinch when he gets deep inside of you but then it will feel so good you won't even think about it. No there won't be tons of blood or anything else. There'll be just a bit of blood. Maybe the guy that said there'd be a lot of blood was using some sort of baseball bat or something when he broke a girls cherry. You'll love it. Don't be concerned or worry about anything silly or worry about cumming or anything else. Just have fun and let yourself go in the moment :)

Get a doctor to check if it really matters to you that much, but really it doesn't. It doesn't mean you are not a virgin if you don't have an intact hymen (not that virginity matters either).
If you have used tampons or sex toys before then chances are you will have broken it but some girls are born without an intact hymen. (carefully) Insert a finger and if you can feel anything there it may be your hymen. Good luck with your first time, it will probably be painful unless you are very lucky, just make sure you are as comfortable as possible, that no one pressures you to do anything you don't want to and have fun!!

Bleeding is one way to know if the hymen is broken but the way I knew mine was broken (and it was broken by a dr when I had my first pelvic exam and pap smear at age 18 because the dr used a regular sized instrument called a speculum, I didn't know til years later that there was a size just for virgins or women who had small pelvic areas) was when I had to start applying medication vaginally such as for a yeast infection.

You can also look in the mirror and see if part of the hymen is still there. If it is you'll see that the opening to the vagina is small. When the hymen is broken the opening is somewhat bigger and you can actually see part of the inside of the vagina. I do this on occasion myself when I need to check for certain things related to one of my medical problems.

If you have had stuff in there, no doubt it is broken. But you can look in the mirror. You can squat over a mirror and it is over the opening of your vagina. If there is a tissue there covering the opening, then it is still there. However, it is probably long gone.

Spread into a mirror.

If you see a fleshy membrane covering your vaginal opening that = hymen.

It's better if it's broken before your first time though, otherwise things might be a bit painful.
