My first ferret had adrenal gland problems as well which caused her to go into heat despite the fact that she had been spayed 2 years earlier. The vet explained that the adrenal gland normally produces tiny amounts of hormone (estrogen?) but when diseased and over-active it can produce enough to send a spayed female into heat. She was fine after treatment for the adrenal gland.

Your ferret is probably spayed. Check for two blue or black dots tattooed on its ears. You don't have to worry about your ferret going into heat.

Even if she grew the hair back it does not mean you are in the clear. She could still have an adrenal disorder. As a matter of fact its probably how she landed herself in the animal shelter to begin with. A lot of folks who end up with a sick ferret give them up because treatment can be costly. Shame on the shelter for not making you privy to that info before you adopted the little guy!

Make an appointment with her vet and then check out this website so you can learn a little something about the animal you have adopted. :) http://www.ferretuniverse.com
