The last Quarterback(s) drafted in the 1st Round who ran a spread offense ( Run N Gun in particular) was Andre Ware in 1991 by Detriot with the number 7th spot, and David Klinger in 1992 to the Bengals with the 6th overall spot. Both of these QB's came from the University of Houston.

Many teams now shy away from picking Spread Offense QB's in the first round is because they spend a lot time in the shotgun, and the reads and drop back motion from under center are completely different from that of being in the Shotgun, and the learning process and conversion to being under center is very difficult and can take years to develop. Also in any variation of a spread offense, teams today in the NFL do not have enough talent at WR to consistanly have 3-5 WRs on the field to make plays. The last team to have this Philosophy in the NFL is Mike Martz's 1999-2005 Rams.

USC doesnt play a true Spread Offense. They only go to slot guys, Double TE's, and H-backs, on long downs. USC plays or played a much more NFL like offense, which is why Leinart is going to be a star in the NFL. There arent any TRUE spread offense QBs that get drafted in the first Round... The Cliff Kingsbury, Colt Brennans of the World dont get drafted in the first Round, and im still trying to think of one who has been and cant lol.

Jake Locker is this week's bandwagon favorite; but if you want a guy who already plays in a pro-system, it'll be Jimmy Clausen. I hate Notre Dame too by the way; but Clausen has the fundamentals and proper mechanics as well as he's already accustomed to playing an NFL-like system, not some garbage system like Florida's.
