I have 2 questions. 1 - My goldfish recently have black color near the edge of its tail and fin. Is it natural? I try to look at some of the diseases that goldfish has and I couldn't find anything like it. The reason that I put this up is because the goldfish in my large tank doesn't show those black color and the large tank is usually cleaner than the small tank, so I was worry that the problem might be the dirty water,so.... 2 - One of the comet goldfish in my large tank has 2 little holes on its dorsal fin and 1 little hole on its tail. The goldfish is about 2 1/2 inches long and it is in the tank with a big pleco, 3 little comet goldfish about its size and 2 large comet goldfish. My question is: Is it something to worry about?

What can I do to help my fish's fin turn orange again? Is it just keep the water clean? Does salt help?

1) The darkening on the fins can be a symptom of recent exposure to ammonia (a burn that is now healing) which would be consistent with your thoughts on dirty water.

2) It could be a physical injury from something poking the fins (plastic plants, or the spines of the pleco). If so, they will heal in time. The fins might become infected in the water quality is poor, so keep up the water changes. A little salt will help the healing - use around 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of water. I'd also try and determine the cause to prevent further injury.

ADDITION: To answer your added question, if you keep the water quality good for them, the black should disappear in about two weeks on its own. Salt will just help prevent infection where the fins are torn.

My Goldfish began black and suddenly turned orange. It started with the fins. It worried me initially, but then i found out the colour change was natural. Maybe your goldfish is ageing.
