I meant race or ethnicity cause some people think you're trying to be something you're not.I don't get why though there is a black girl i work with and her name is selena and some people are like she isn't hispanic,or mexican stuff like that and i have seen black guys who call themselves by nicknames like gotti, giovanni, and vito. There was an asian girl i went to school with named emily and people had comments about that.My friend is puerto rican and black and the father of her children is sicilian and her son name is vito and she said she got comments why do some people do this?

Hmmm, that's interesting. I'm from California and this is the first time I'm hearing about this problem. Regardless, cultural names are a representation of something; whether it be an emotion, a symbol, a saying, etc. It's a way for diferent cultures to describe something of meaning. If you think of it, that's no different then the everyday words we use in the English language, they are all derived from something. So how are names any different? It's not stealing because no one "owns" the name. If anything, using names from other cultures and understanding where these names comes from shows your willingness to be open to the ideas of other cultures.

I don't know, Issues such as this seem to be more extreme in the US. You appear to be more racially divided than ever and drifting back to the unenlightened time of the pre 1960's. Im British and my wife is British we have 4 children. ! has a scottish name, 1 has a french name, 1 has a russian name and the other is an Israeli name. Not once did we think oh no we can't name this child that because it is a Black childs name. You think thats a nice name I think it would suit them. Thats the real world

Names are part of culture and say something about who we are. People who convert to islam tend to rename themselves using muslim names for that reason. The same way many White names today are from the bible because of the tradition of being christian, so are hebrew rather than european.
Really you can name yourself anything, but if I see the name Toibin Maquire I expect it to belong to someone of Irish ancestry, and Bella Freeman I would expect to be a black woman.

People are just dumb and want to ****** about anything and everything. I've met a lot of black people with Spanish or Italian sounding names like Antonia, Antonio, Francesca, etc. My cousins are Mexican and have Italian names. I have Italian friends with English names. I think it's nice that people want to use names from other cultures/ethnicities.

Some people are just plain old out and out ignorant. I named my daughter (who is deceased) Caitlin Grace and everyone said that was white name, but I don't care what someone else thinks. I gave my child a name that meant something to me...Grace is the one thing I wished for her.
If I ever have a boy I will name him Geoffrey (after Chaucer, one of my favorite authors) Declan (Irish name, but I love it!!). I'd much rather a name like the ones above to one that is made up and hard to pronounce...it can scar a kid for life.

accompanied or not, that's impolite to make exciting of or remark on somebody's call and/or the meaning in the back of it. i understand small city u.s. has this is way of understanding all and sundry's business enterprise. in line with possibility you may desire to write a letter to the editor of your interior reach paper that touches on the information that your question did. lots of people who have not got first-hand journey with adoption are purely not conscious of the countless sentiments/strategies in touch right here.

I don't think it's a big deal. I plan to name my future daughters Natalia and Katya, which are both Russian. I love the names. People are welcome to ask questions about it, but not to criticize.
