That is a field to go into. many people who are in that field bacause of the passion for it. I am proud of you. I wanted to be a Volcanologist/ and geologist but money spoke and now I am in the medical field. I am happy with it but it is boring compared to what you want to get yourself into. Many colleges especially on the pacific side offer it and most Geologists have a bachelors degree or better. salery depending on where you are is usually btwn 40-45 thousand per year. My friend is a Geologist and on her travels her salery stayed the same but when she went to an expensive place like Hawaii that was a set back. I wish you all the best of luck and if you have any questions I will do my very best to help you. infact a good reference would be the top contributer in earth science and geololgy- QFL 24-7 is his screen name he is also a geologist.

Take classes at highschool that will help you out - eg Geography, maths, chemistry, and maybe physics and biology (the sciences really do help, trust me!)
Maybe join a local geology society if there's one available.
Find a college that has a good earth science/geology department...!
