Your assumption does not represent the reality of actual demongraphic studies in regards to religious faith. Religious affiliation and practice has declined in Europe, but in the rest of the world it is growing at an exponential rate. The specifics of the decline in religious affiliation and practice in Europe has been in regards to Christianity, but metaphysical presumptions still remain strong in Europe. As far as faith being less "realistic" than some other system of convictions, modernity no longer has a epistemological standard by which to make this kind of claim. Welcome to the post-modern world-- where the secularism of the West is but a small island in a world filled with religion.

faith was embraced in the past because it was linked to religion which was the seat of political power.
Now that the religious leader is not necessarily the national leader, the average person can relax his expression of faith.
Compare it to Islamic countries like Iran where religion and power are synonymous. If you don't embrace the faith, you're likely to be ostracized

People don't go to church or religious gatherings to learn about God, so they don't really know God. And for others God has too many rules to live by and it keeps people from doing what they want. TV has made forgetting God's way and live and do what YOU want, so ignore God. And they don't have faith in the unseen, but if you really look at Gods creation, you can't put him aside. He is everywhere!
