The first rule is you have to be on a winning team, or your value is worthless in this award. So no Yankees. Right now, the answer is Mags. He carried this team when they were not hitting, and has not slowed down.
On a side note - Boston first baseman Youk - he is a close second. But how is this for injustice - he is not on the all star ballot! The non-field playing David Ortiz is! This is why the all star game is a crock and why getting voted in by the fans is a joke too! This game should count for nothing!

Oh be bold, say a different name.
BOLD - Kevin Youkilis.
He is scoring runs, driving in runs, getting on base, setting the table for Papi and Manny.
Hunter won't be in the race, and isn't that good, at the moment, it looks like between Magglio and Ortiz, Magglio the favourite if it were voted on today.

very simple to answer Vladamir Guerrero if they win there division.
red sox's,Yankee's, tiger's, has too many star's and 1 player can not be responsible for there Win's.
if Guerrero wasn't there they might be 1 of the worst team's in baseball he literally Carry's that team on his back.
and they win division's only account of him.
you's are not getting what a MVP is?
youkilis & ortiz is on a star filled team.
granderson, magglio is on a star filled team.
if vladamir guerero get's injured there's no 1 else to help that team win it would spirle down to last place.
instead of being a division leader like it is with him.

A-Rod will win his 3rd. Magglio will fade at some point during the second half.

Derek Jeter
He is leading the AL in batting average and when the Yankees turn their season around the voters will look to reward him for that. Also, he should of won it last year and the voters will remember that he should of won and didn't and will vote for him to make up for it.

i know you said "if" but Hunter is not and will not be an MVP. considering who might win the divisions, Mags could be it, Papi, Vlad, Hafner/Sizemore, or if the Yanks get it together A-Rod & Jeter will play big roles in it.

It is too early to tell. If Manny Ramirez keeps up his current pace, and if Josh Beckett continues to win ball games, and if David Ortiz continues on fire, all three would be and should be considered.
Chow!!
