99.99% of the time, I let the person know I am on the phone and I will be right back. If they don't understand and respect that, then perhaps they aren't really worth talking to.

In the case of one person, he goes to the snowfall invironment and throws snowballs which makes a splat noise in my speakers. Another person just multi-tasks and gets back to me when she wants. And the secretary at the publishing company I works for sends a "crawling" headline accompanied by a loud version of Styx's "Too Much Time On My Hands."
But usually, I don't ignore the person. I type brb before I get up from the computer.

I wouldn't do that. I usually type in a quick BRB (Be Right Back) and hope they understand. If not, oh well.
