My religion requires the end of the day to be 'at' or 'after' sundown. God separated light and darkness and called the 'light' day and the 'darkness' night. Interestingly, that was on the first day of creation and the sun wasn't created until day 4. (I personally think this original light is so incredibly white (opposite of darkness) and bright that normal man would not be able to see it without being blinded, just a theory though) Nevertheless, the sun is what causes daylight and this is what we must use to determine when a day ends. The sages have debated this greatly. Some say the end of the day is when the orb of the sun touches the horizon, some say it ends when the sun's orb goes just below the horizon, and others including me believe it is when the last ray of sunshine has departed from the horizon. This is very important on the Sabbath day so people can know when they can start working again in case they have to do some things that night. What do you all think?

Well a day as we define it is really a function of invention. Therefore to me midnight is where a day ends, because that's how our society and calendar were made to work. Hypothetically, if we for the past 1000s of years considering noon to be the changing of the day, then that's when I feel the day would end. It's really just a thing of tradition and invention. There is no naturally occurring thing such as "time". Time is an invention of human origin.

The Naval day once started at noon but was changed to midnight. My day ends when I fall asleep. My religion doesn't stipulate on such matters. The only true requirement of God is to do as you would have done to you.

I always use whenever I go to sleep as the division of days. It just still seems like the same day from the time I wake up until the time I go to sleep. At one in the morning, I still call something that's going to happen at noon 'tomorrow', even though it's technically 'today'. However, it's your decision. go with what you feel.

I work nights sometimes - like tonight - I get here at 9:45p and work until 6:15a. In my head, it is still "today" until I go to bed and wake up again. So I guess my day ends when I go to bed, no matter what time it is.
