what do you think of the usa stealing the name of america?

people who live in france and spain can call themselves europeans
people who live in japan and china can call themselves asians
people in kenya and nambia can call themselves africans
people in austraila can call themselves australians
but people in canada and peru can't call themselves americans

why did the usa have to steal the name of the ENTIRE western hemisphere!!!

I wasn't aware we stole the name of America. I guess I must be one of those stupid Americans everybody seems to like to talk about. I mean, I thought the United States of America was a name given to the area located in the Americas that happened to feature a unity of each of the states contained within.

The proper name of my country is the United States OF America. If you have noticed, the entire continent is called NORTH AMERICA...named after the ITALIAN (this is a EUROPEAN) explorer AMERIGO Vespucci.

Vespucci's voyages became widely known in Europe after two accounts attributed to him were published between 1502 and 1504.[1] In 1507, Martin Waldseemüller produced a world map on which he named the new continent "America" after Vespucci's first name, Amerigo.

I'm going to make the wild assumption that you're not an American. Don't they teach you world history in YOUR country?

who cares?! If you really have a problem with it, talk to the government of the United States of America.

Canadians & Mexicans are also known as Northern Americans and there are the Central Americans in Panama, Costa Rica, etc. and then there are the Southern Americans in South America. But the North Americans have had so many disbutes that they have divided themselves more and are mostly known as Canadians, Americans and Mexicans.

Big deal, part of history, who cares, get over it.

You know, I see some of nonchalant people that do nothing to help mend these problems of society , like the lady (I think) before me saying, " it does not matter" . It Does matter, because we just keep letting things happen. If it seems small to you now it gonna get much bigger later if you do not put the smoldering of smoke out now. How? It should be exposed and addressed.

people from Canada can call themselves north Americans if they wish so can people for Mexico say 1/2 of them can say they are north Americans and 1/2 of them can say that they are central Americans.

u can call urself americans. its not our fault that when people say americans the think of the USA first. its probaly because thats just how we refer to ouselves alot. like "go dbless america" and stuff. plus united states of "america" you can say it, its not our fault people dont know its u. most people in the us do. idk,if u wanted to be more clear u could say north americans

and that is exactly why i call myself 'mercan instead of american....i want to differentiate what part of america i am from...also, i don't speak english....i speak 'mercan....i am trying to incorporate this into pop culture so we can change as a whole, but it is not working

Well hell, no one else seemed to have wanted it. They didn't name it Mexico of America or Canada of America. They had their chance just like every one else!
