Get yourself use to wearing Tampons. It will make your life much easier in the long run.

Your only other option, really, is a cup. I hear they're pretty messy the first time you try them, so that's probably not such a good idea. Besides, I've only ever seen them sold by mail.

Tampons are not so scary. Is there a particular reason you don't want to use them? If you get the smallest absorbency you need and change them regularly, you are at very, very little risk of disease and you shouldn't even feel it. The white string stays pretty hidden usually, and they aren't hard to put in once you practise. Maybe you could buy a box of the small ones and give one a try. If you are comfortable wearing it at home, it should be no problem.

If there's just no way you can do the tampon thing, then you should probably stay out of the water. You aren't going to turn it red or anything, but menstrual blood is a bodily fluid. You don't want to expose your friends to that.

Your only way out of it is to wear a tampon! You cannot wear a pad into the pool and you do not want to go into the pool without anything! Don't be afraid to wear a tampon. Just talk to your mom about how you are feeling and explain to her that you'd like to try a tampon for the pool party. Maybe you could try wearing one a few hours before the party that way you can get used to how it feels.

Well, if you plan on swimming you are going to have to get some. Unfortunately your period is not going to put itself on hold because you have plans. There are tampons on the market for teens, they are smaller and sized just right for the beginner. Don't worry, if you are a virgin they do not take away your virginity. The are easy to use, follow the instructions in the package. It may take a few tries but you will do fine. Also, remember to change the tampon every 4 hours when you are swimming to be safe.
Have fun at your pool party and really, some day you will look back on this and shake your head with a smile!

I know this is probably irrelevant since the pool party's past but I had a lot of trouble with tampons at first. To some people they're not a pblm and others have to get used to them. I'd suggest getting ahold of some Tampax Pearls (the lightest flow variety cuz they will be the smallest). Most tampon boxes come with a set of directions folded up inside the box. Make sure you read those as they can be helpful. Although, I could never get a tampon in by squatting like they say you can in those directions so I suggest either laying down on a towel or laying down in the bathtub to insert the tampon. It helps me to relax myself and my muscles down there for easier insertion. Also, this is gonna sound silly and gross but I wished my mother would have been more specific so...don't be afraid to spread your legs wide (it makes insertion easier). If you're not used to yourself "down there" don't be afraid to find the opening with your finger first. And don't be afraid to really push the tampon up far. (If you don't push it in far enough you'll feel it and it will bother you. If that happens don't be afraid to pull it out and start again with a fresh one). Most importantly, just remember to relax and take your time. Good luck. :)

Either learn to use a tampon (they aren't that hard, and they don't hurt), or don't go to the pool party unless you want to be wearing a thick pad under your swimsuit (and trust me, noone wants to look weird doing that). Or don't wear a pad with your swimsuit, but if you do that, make sure you have a nice dark towel on hand at all times to help cover up the bleeding you'll be doing when you're not in the pool.

I had the same problem before I used tampons. The best thing you can do is wear a pad in the pool in your bathing suit, and just wear shorts over them. As soon as u get out, change ur pad and clothes right away. It sounds gross, but its the best thing you can do. When I had my period, I just didn't go swimming at all. But now that I wear a tampon, i can :]

Good luck hun ;P

I go for using a pad and short. The problem is that maybe that ruins your plans for that bathing suit that you probably were waiting to wear. but at least you will be in the pool. The tampon thing take time to get used to it. I just use it in emergency situation. But they still bothers me.

Honestly, you might want to give them a try. Not just for your party tomorrow, but they are soo much more comfortable!
You dont have to sit on a "diaper" all day!!
(But ill admit, it IS scary your first time..)
if you decided to use them after reading what everybody else writes, buy tampax pearls for your first time..they've always worked for me.. and regular is probably your best bet if you dont have a heavy flow.
(since your mom doesnt use them, you can either read the instructions inside the box, or ask a really close girl-friend who does use them.)

..o, and if it takes you a couple tries, dont give up. thats normal, your first couple of times. Soon, itll e like nothing
good luck, tomorrow!

You can ask your mom to get you some. They do not hurt at all. They are very easy to use, and will let you go to the pool and not have to worry about bleeding through your clothes.
