Back in the day it was simple, format your hard drive and use a Win98 Boot Disk.
Then type in at the command prompt FDISK.
Your display would look like this C:\fdisk
Now-a-days, the ol' FDisk isn't what it used to be, so... I have no clue. Sorry.

Well most likely, you currently have ALL of your HD space on one partition. So in order to break it apart.. you'd have to start from scratch, that means losing all your data and reinstalling windows. If you have a win xp cd. pop it in and restart your pc. if it doesnt auto load at start up, run it in windows, and it will reboot to the program. from there, it will ask you a lot of questions, simply follow them to get what you want. You eventually get to a question that asks you how much free space you want to format. Select the size you want, when done, select the rest and do another partition. Then you can select which one you want the windows install on. The alternative option would be to buy a second hard drive and set your original one to a "master" and the second one to a "slave" That way you will have two drives just like a partition. You can access both of them within windows. You can get an external drive (that sits "stand alone" on your desk) or an internal one to put in the box.

You can use programs such as partition magic.
You can also make the partition yourself using the "mmc" snap-in for disk management..
If you're confident... try using:
Start>Run> "mmc">
File-
>add/remove snap-in> add> disk management
There is more than 1 way to partition your hard drive...
Check out swiss knife partition utility... I remember seeing it in maximum pc magazine... one of their recent issues..
Not sure if this link will show, but....

Partition magic is an old but good program to use...
Good luck

you hve to re-format your hard drive and do it when you do that. My suggestion is if you are trying to put the OS on part and then all you r music and pictures on the other. Get a small 10 GB HD and clone it over to that and then use the 2nd HD for storage. It works a lot better if you have to re-format your computer, you will not lose your docutments.

Yes, I agreed with Benjamin, just to add, to decide how much you want to divide your hd, 1024mb=1GB. So, you can decide Another utility you can use is fdisk, although you probably won't need this if you are going to install XP or vista.
Good luck. â»
