This is a very, very basic answer:

Lucid dreaming happens during that state of almost awake / almost asleep. Most of your regular dreaming happens during this time too.

Really, it's mind over matter. If you want to do it, then you will be able to, but you have to convince yourself that you are actually able to do so. That's the first step.

What I do is to set my alarm clock really early (like an hour before I'm supposed to get up) and then I wake up for a brief moment and go back to sleep realizing that the whole idea was to lucid dream.

When the dreams start coming I need to convince myself I am dreaming. This can usually be done by noticing something about the world around you that is different in the real world (like your watch is on the wrong hand, or the clock is stopped, your room is the wrong color, etc.). This has to be chosen ahead of time so your subconscious mind will know to look for it in the first place. A popular one is to open a book since most people can't read in their dreams.

Once you realize you are actually dreaming, you will be able to manipulate stuff because you realize it's not real.

Again, this was a very basic answer to your question. I hope it helps!

Have you read "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming"? That should help you. Doing reality checks throughout the day helps (Asking yourself if you are dreaming by testing out things like like at your hands to see if they are normal or looking at writing, looking away, and looking back at it to see if its changed) also having an intention before you go to sleep, and recording your dreams every night. You should remember at least one dream per night before you can lucid dream. Here's a good website that has a forum:

A lot of lucid dreaming takes place after you've prepared for bed and are trying to go to sleep or after you have woke but haven't got out of bed yet. Some people call it "falling asleep" or "falling back asleep" but it's not.
Others can lucid dream while meditating or daydreaming.

Take command and influence your input.

How to know if you are lucidly dreaming:

In the dream, make the choice to touch your nose, or scratch your ***. If your physical nose is touched, or your physical *** is scratched, by you, congratulations! You had a lucid dream.

Or, possibly, a Pink Floyd album.

Dreams have been much debated throughout Millennia. My opinion is that dreams function as a psychic safety valve, enabling one to experience what one would usually be vilified or incarcerated for.

As long as a nasty dream does not become a nasty reality, I, for one, can sleep soundly.

I recently had a lucid dream! It was pretty crazy. In theory, meditation or hypnosis can help you achieve lucid dreaming, as it is about conditioning your mind. However, it is generally considered extremely difficult to achieve on a normal basis, and occurs more commonly with children (which may suggest having a more open mind? just a personal theory).

Try Glenn Harold's self hypnosis CD, "Deep Sleep Every Night" - it includes a track on lucid dreaming

http://www.amazon.com/Deep-Sleep-Diviniti-Glenn-Harrold/dp/1901923207/ref=sr_1_6/104-7943833-9952713?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1180240529&sr=1-6

I personally stopped using this CD I got to try and cure my insomnia this since it got annoying to go to sleep with my headphones.

You can read about other ways to achieve lucid dreaming here:

Good luck!

I copied the link below, you can check it out. I always felt that it just happens, but perhaps not. I had one once quite by accident. My son who passed away came to me. It was only an instant but he was there. I touched his hair and then his face. I have never know such peace and wonder until then.

Whenever I can. (rarely, but usually well-remembered) One thing about them is that in the Dreams - I'm aware of dreaming.
