Tanathology (from the greek tanathos meaning death)
It is a branch of psychology...(seriously)
If you study the CAUSE of death, we are speaking of forensic pathology (with proper necropsy protocol and everything)....

Necrology is actually giving notice of a person's death. The scientific name for the study of death is called Thanatology, from the Greek 'thanatos' (death + logy). "It is primarily an interdisciplinary study, frequently undertaken by professionals in nursing, psychology, sociology, psychiatry, social work and veterinary science. It also describes bodily changes that accompany death and the after-death period." The study of death can involve more that just the cause of the death.

I don't know that there is a title for it. Necrology is a listing of names. Necromancy is the black art of raising the dead. But...it seems to be a hole in the medical field. Pathology is the study of how someone died. So..that might be the closest.
After all, when you are dead, you are dead. We don't understand death and I frankly think we are, as a species, afraid to broach the subject.
