Take your change in dollar amount and divide that by the original amount. Here we would have $560-$495 / $495 or
$65/$495 = 0.131313...
Multiply that by 100 to convert to a percentage
0.1313 * 100 = 13.13% - your percent of increase
Hope that helps :)

The solution for the decimal part (560-495)/495 is correct. But the expression to the numerical part of this answer as 13.13 (which certainly will serve in most situations) is an approximation. The answer to the question is not 13 13/100%, but 13 13/99%.
If we are sending astronauts into space I think they would appreciate the exact figure entering into our calculations.
I post this response because the nature of infinite repeating decimal numbers is little understood--by both teachers and students. We are so addicted to decimal answers reverting to mixed number answers seems retrograde. Of course the answer to the numerical part of the problem could be given as 13.13 with a bar written over the last 13, expressing it as a decimal, but how do we then enter it into a computer or calculator? With the mixed number the fraction can be entered first then the 13 can be added to that.
I hope this entry will stimulate readers to investigate the nature of repeating decimal numbers.

percent = (final price - intial price) / intial price
percent = (560 - 495) / 495 = .131313
multiply 100 to get the percent and the answer is 13.13% increase

$65 is the increase
65/495= x/100
65(100) = 495x
6,500 = 495x
13.13=x
so the answer is a mark-up of 13.13%
