Okay. I like a bargain as much as the next person, but I'm wondering why Memorial Day, a day designated to remember our fallen Vets (and has grown to remember the dead, in general) and used to be called "Decoration Day" because that was the day to put flowers on graves, became a day exploited by commercialism Sales?

Just what do Sales have to do with Memorial Day?
Why is this a good time to give discounts of anything from mattresses to cars? And is this a bit disrespectful to the memory of those the day was meant to honor?

It just rubs me the wrong way.

Being a vet, I've known some people who haven't come back. That being said, I have to agree with you.

I think that everything has become over commercialized, but alot of people still do the traditional stuff too. I just went around with my grandparents today and put flowers up on all of our deceased family members graves, vets or not.

Decoration Day was first observed to honor civil war vets, who died in defense of their country! I believe it was LBJ in the 60's who first made it to honor veterans of all US wars! Sales are just thought of because everyone is off and companies think you should come and blow your money, since you're not working! The same reason for July 4th sales, Labor Day sales, etc. Sales do not dishonor veterans, people who respond to sales, just because they don't have to work, dishonor veterans and what they fought for!

I agree that Memorial Day has become a commercial thing and ppl have forgotten what it's celebrating.
It's a good time to get together with family.

Unfortunately America is a capitalist country, only the money matters to most people now.

God bless every man and woman that is now serving or whom ever has served in the Unites States Military! We owe our freedom to them one and all!
