Okay, here's all of the info for you. Anyone who has a Wireless Router or the Nintendo Wi-FI USB Connector Adapter can connect to Wi-Fi. If you don't have either one of those, you can always buy one or you can go into various places that would have Wi-Fi hot spot. Most McDonalds have them. Connecting to Wi-Fi is free but you need the devices in order to connect to them.

When you're connected to them - here is what you do in Diamond and/or Pearl.

Go down into any Pokémon Center basement. You'll be given the Pal Pad. Talk to the lady in the middle and connect to Wi-Fi. Read whatever it says there and do what it tells you. Afterwards disconnect. Then you can go into your Key Items, select Pal Pad and select the 3rd option in order to see your Friend Code. All players who have Wi-Fi will have a Friend Code. It's the best way to trade - in my humble opinion.

There's also the GTS which stands for the Global Trade Station. You can post one of your Pokémon up for trade and request one but the only bad things about it are the following:

1. You can't see the details of the Pokémon you're getting. You can only see mainly the Pokémon, the level and perhaps the gender - so there'd be no way for you to tell if it's legit or not until you get it.

2. You can't request Pokémon if you haven't seen them.
