I've never been the type to sit still and stay off my feet but i've been put on bed rest for 2 months. Any suggestions on waht I can do well on bedrest? I'm still so tempted to not stay off my feet and just keep being active, should I listen to the doc and stay off my feet or not?

I'd listen to the doc and stay off your feet. One thing you could do is learn to knit or crochet and make a hat and booties for the baby to wear home from the hospital. Play Suduko, the books of them have tons to do. What daytime TV--its not the best but at least its new everyday.

First - yes, listen to your doctor. You don't want to end up in the hospital or harming the baby just because you're bored. I know it's a pain in the rear (I spent two months on bed rest), but it's HUGELY important to follow doctor's orders!

As for what to do ... here's what I did:

1, Get a tv near the bed and become addicted to some drama that's on daily reruns on TNT (like, oh - ER, Friends, or something).

2, Start a new hobby like crocheting or knitting

3, Start addressing baby announcements, Christmas cards, etc.

4. Write letters to everyone you know "just because".

5. Start a journal

6. Invest in a laptop - web surfing can become quite addictive and will eat up the time, as can games!

7. Organize all your photos into photo albums. Offer to do the same for family members :0)

8. Take an online class. There's a ton of free ones offered. CNET.com has all sorts of classes on just about everything, and many colleges have 6-8 week classes that they offer online, too,

9. Read. I love to read - just never had the time. I read classics, Harry Potter, Grisham, and lots of American history,

10. Learn about something new and become an expert - on what, I don't know :0) Something that always makes you wonder . . . Astrology, American Civil War, Dinosaurs (which might come in handy in a few years)

The time will pass quickly, and in a couple of months you'll wish that you were able to be on bed rest again, if only for a short time :0)

Congrats!

I know exactly what you mean...my first was 9 weeks early so as a precaution with my second, I'm put on bed rest for 3 months (24-36 weeks...I'm at 29 weeks now). We're starting construction on our house to make room for the baby and it's hard to not get in the car and buy furnishings or search for the bathroom tile, etc. But I spend most of the day watching tv, checking emails, chatting to friends online, playing online games, working on a needlepoint picture for one of the new rooms (not sure which one yet), and reading. You can have friends come and visit you during the day so you're not alone. It definately gets boring, but it's worth it in the end to have a healthy baby. Good luck.

The most important thing is to rest for your child, stay off your feet as much as possible. Listen to your Dr. Learn how to knit and make the baby a blanket, or start pages in a scrap book for the baby, you could read, watch TV, get coloring books and color just for something to do. Good luck.

Girl, listen to that doctor! I was on bed rest for 3+ months with my first and 2+ months with my second. While it was not alot of fun, I had my husband rent movies for me, I read alot of books, wrote letters, made baby blankets, talked on the phone. It is SO important to follow this. You don't want to end up having preterm labor and have to be hospitalized for a long period of time. My longest preterm labor stay was 5 days. I know it sounds like a long time, but when you hold that baby, every day will be worth it!
I have 4 children and with my last two I had no preterm labor. My first two were girls, my last two were boys. Go figure!

Of course you should listen to the doctor. He's (she?) is the expert after all.

As for what you can do, well, I suppose you could take the time to start a journal. Write down all the things you're feeling now, the hopes you have for your baby etc. Write down all the things you feel it would be important for your child to know in life. All the things you wish someone had told you before you had to find out on your own. You can then either keep the journal to yourself to help remind you later what you wanted to pass on or, at a later date, give it to your child.

Good luck!
