How do you explain emo?

There are so many kids that I will call 'black shirters.' They all wear black, but they are all different. From goth to emo to punk, they all seem the same to me. How do I tell them apart?

emo are suicidal. goth are all about seeking death but never really wanna find it....punk is about expressing your individuality... juts my opinon im not really sure though

Genre of music is how I explain it. Clothing doesn't matter at all.
